After almost a full week in Chicago, Leslie and I have returned to our “real lives” and are happy to report we have been on one of the best trips either one of us has ever taken.
How good was it? Leslie got food poisoning and it was still one of the best trips ever.
We were in Chicago for the BlogHer 09 conference, featuring 1000 women bloggers (and a few good men). There are so many highlights I’m not sure where to start…so I’ll start at the top.
Tim Gunn from Project Runway is my new BFF.
Tim made an appearance at the Tide and Bounce booth in the exhibit hall to promote the upcoming new season of Project Runway, now on the Lifetime network. It debuts on August 20th.
This was one of those “in the right place at the right time” moments.
Somehow I ended up being at the front of the line of blogging women waiting to meet Tim. Many thanks to the two other women in the photo above, Monika of Red Kat Blonde and Kate of Kate’s Random Musings (all from Cincinnati) who allowed me to join them at the front of the line when I wandered by about an hour before Tim was scheduled to appear. There were only 6 women in line at that point and we made it a party!
By the way, I have no idea where Leslie was at this point. I think she was in a breakout session learning how to get a book published.
Obviously I’m not one to be shy. Here Kate and Monika are respectfully keeping their distance from Tim but I had something to say….although I can’t remember what it was.
Did I mention we were first in line? Because of that, we had some quality time with Tim. The folks from Tide and Bounce were still trying to figure out where to position him, the crowd and their photographer so we spent several minutes chatting.
Old School and I love watching Tim’s shows, so that’s how I started the converstaion. Then I complimented Tim on his suit (it looked impeccible) and I noted that Old School likes to wear Brooks Brothers. Tim said he used to wear Brooks Brothers but this suit is from Banana Republic.
I asked how Lifetime was treating him, he replied the network is being very good to him and the show. I asked how Heidi was doing (his co-host, Heidi Klum is pregnant for the fourth time), he said she’s great and her baby girl is due in November. As predicted, Tim is my new BFF.
Tim is tall and very slender in person. He couldn’t have been more charming or kind. Kate (on the far right) asked for some fashion advise for women with curves. He loved answering her question and told her to wear v-neck tops to draw attention to her beautiful face, wear wide belts to cinch in her waist, wear dresses and skirts, and to not be afraid to play up her curves. What a lovely man.
Can’t wait til August 20th!

Hey, Lisa!
I was one of the two women standing right behind you three. Wasn’t Tim the best? I was thrilled to meet him AND still make the Humor Bloggers panel, which wouldn’t have been possible if he hadn’t been early.
Nice meeting you!
Yes, I was indeed in a breakout session learning about how difficult is it to get a book published. Now I’d have rather asked Mr. Tim what I should wear.
